Basically, what's going on right now is this: My parents hate the entire idea of our road trip. It makes them visibly uncomfortable when I mention it, and I can tell (and they've told me) that they would prefer I not go. Or, if I have to go somewhere, can't we please take a bus or something? But they are letting me go.
Jamie's parents? Not so much. We revised from a road trip to a Chicago trip (in which we go to Chicago for a week and a half to look at museums and nice stuff like that). My plan for the Chicago trip originally included a baseball game, before Jamie nixed that because her parents would never believe either one of us wanted to go to a baseball game. So we're going to the Frank Lloyd Wright Museum. Oh, nerds. But she finally got it out of her mom that they are not ok with 1) the young age, 2)the distance, and 3) the big city. Well, ok. But they seem open to the idea of us going somewhere closer. Somewhere like Pittsburgh or Boston or Providence. The only problem? We're not going to any of those places.
Because we're going on a road trip. Right now, from home to Chicago to the Twin Cities to South Dakota to St. Louis to Memphis to West Virginia. Plans are subject to change. But plans will not, most likely, change to us going to Providence and only Providence.
We are such liars.
The Chicago Trip was almost ok because, well, we were going to be in Chicago. We could take tons of pictures whilst there and pretend they were from different days. We could have changed outfits and everything. A lot of work, yes, but doable. And we were lying, yes, but we were going to be in Chicago. Just for a day and a half instead of a week and a half. Oops.
So, where does that leave us? "Going" to a city we have no intention of stepping foot in. This is getting harder to pull off. Though, if they do find out about it prematurely, they will probably find out about it when we're on the trip or shortly after we get back. You know, when the only photos we have of our trip are blurry closeups with no discernible landmarks. When they ask us about the weather and we have no idea. Because instead of being in Boston, we are en route to St. Louis.
Obviously, we will text more than call. Occasionally picture message a pic of either one of us in front of something vague. We can only hope that they don't call the hotel we're "staying in" or decide to send some relatives out to visit or something. I don't think Jamie has relatives in the area. If anything goes wrong, hopefully they'll be too worried to inquire as to why the hospital we are in has an address in Minnesota.
Most of me is thinking everything will work out. Some part of me is feeling really guilty. At least I'm not epically lying to my parents? (Sorry, Jamie)
